DIY Pearl Sunglasses

We've been on a bit of a mermaid kick with Alyssa recently, working towards a photo shoot that we've been planning for weeks now and will finally be shooting tomorrow. We've pulled inspiration for the shoot, compiled our favourite mermaid-inspired beauty looks, and shot a beauty story with Ashley Readings. It's been a busy few weeks, to say the least!

The looks for tomorrow are already pulled, with lots of mint, sequin and sparkly goodness, and as we were accessorizing it became clear that we were missing one essential element: pearl sunglasses. And what better way to tackle this dilemma than with a little DIY project? We love ourselves some pearl embellishment, and this simple DIY is the perfect way to up your summer accessories game, custom designed and everything.

What You'll Need //

  • Pearls. Available at any craft store, we opted for a variety of sizes.
  • Sunglasses. Any style and shape will work, depending on the look you're going for. Alyssa decided on a pair of heart shaped sunnies she had lying around, and I picked a round pair to use for the shoot.
  • Glue Gun.

1 // Use the glue gun to make dots along the frame of the sunglasses where you want the pearls to sit. We'd recommend doing it pearl-by-pearl so the glue doesn't have time to harden before you attach the pearls.

2 // Attach the pearls to the frame in whatever design you've decided on. You can keep it simple and just use the pearls as an accent, like Alyssa did here, or you can embellish the frames the entire way around, which is what we did for the shoot.

Et voila! Quite possibly the easiest project ever, you've now got yourself a pair of DIY pearl sunglasses, so go ahead and channel your inner mermaid.
