Escape to Allan Gardens
I'm not sure why I didn't think of escaping to Allan Gardens this winter more often, and of course my first visit there this past weekend coincided with one of our nicest days yet. Not that I'm complaining, but the moment I stepped inside, surrounded by greenery and an array of colourful foliage, it became clear that this would be the perfect place to visit when you just can't seem to shake those winter blues. The sun streaming through the windows, kissing your cheeks, and that slightly tropical air hinting at warmer climates and carefree days. How perfect would it be to pack a book and find a little corner in one of the greenhouses for a couple of hours, getting lost in a different storyline, forgetting the reality of a cold, grey winter for even just a little while?
So that's where I found myself this past Sunday, and it was instant bliss, providing the perfect backdrop for a classic weekend outfit. I don't know what it is about a military green cargo shirt or jacket, but it's one item that's remained in my closet in some version or another for awhile now. I rarely wear it without a sparkly vintage brooch pinned at the chest, adding that touch of whimsy that I'd like to think is my signature, and my preference is to layer it over a feminine dress in the summer, providing that mix of styles I love so much. Lately though - and I must admit that at this time of year I tend to fall into a serious style rut - it's been an easy go-to for me, paired with denim and a bright purse to pull it all together.
