Greenhouse Juice Co Cleanse // Day One
After talking about wanting to do a juice cleanse for over a year now, I decided that 2015 was going to be the year, and started doing my research and asking around a little bit. I had a lot of people claiming their love for Greenhouse Juice Co. (thank you, instagram community!), and as a newer Toronto-based organic cold-pressed juice company who have been around for just over a year, I was immediately drawn to their overall aesthetic and obvious dedication to offering simple and delicious plant-based juices.
For those of you new to the juicing game, you're probably wondering what cold-pressed means, so I figured I'd leave it to the experts at Greenhouse to explain:
"…It’s the healthiest way to make juice. It means using hydraulic pressure to extract juice from plants without denaturing enzymes or breaking down nutrients with high levels of heat or oxygen. Our hydraulic presses coax every colourful, delicious drop of liquid from our organic ingredients while keeping their health-giving properties intact, for a raw juice that stays alive for 72 hours."
After some back and forth with Greenhouse Juice Co., trying to decide which cleanse to do and how long to do it for, I decided on the Standard 3-Day Cleanse. What I was really looking for was a way to reboot my system and get myself back on track with good, clean eating habits. I'm going through a period of huge transitional change with the shop closing and today being our final day open, and one thing I'm making a conscious effort to do, is to take really good care of myself. The detoxing properties and renewed energy that a juice cleanse promises will hopefully allow me to do just that, and the timing couldn't be more perfect, encouraging me to be proactive with my healthy decisions.
Today is day one, and though I'm only one juice in - Clean-Zing was my first this morning, with alkaline water, lemon, maple syrup, and liquid cayenne, to detoxify, boost metabolism and cleanse - I'm feeling pretty good. I did miss my caffeine this morning, though I think that's more of a ritual thing than an actual addiction, and I'm continuing to drink herbal tea throughout, which I think will help. It is difficult not to be a little obsessive about each juice, planning out when you can drink the next one and making sure to keep busy in between. Case in point, I'm rewarding myself with my next juice, East of Eden, once this blog is posted, and it's about all I can think of at the moment.
So with that being said, I'm off to treat myself to a green juice and continue about my day. Stay tuned for further reports on my juicing adventure! Something tells me it may not be this easy for the full three days.
