Lately Inspired By // High Waisted Denim and Feminine Blouses
I think it's probably safe to say that you can get a good sense of my style obsessions via my 'style muse' board before I can actually put it into words what I'm loving at any given time.
Such was the case for my my most recent sartorial love affair — feminine blouses with high waisted (preferably light wash) denim.
White blouses tend to be a staple in my closet to start with — found in delicate lace styles, classic silhouettes that tend towards the menswear inspired, and slightly more vintage iterations with nods to Victorian details and eras past. It sometimes amazes me how many different variations there can be of seemingly similar styles, and yet here I am, coveting new pieces each and every season thanks to new fabrications and pretty little details that make this version just that much different. It's a dangerous world out there!
So when I started noticing a new crop of white blouses on my style boards, I can't say I was that surprised, but the defining factor this time around was what they were paired with — enter, the high waisted denim. The pairing is undecidedly feminine and has a soft, vintage vibe that just feels so effortless and oh-so-summery.
My go-to denim tends to be classic black (you know, because they go with everything and can be easily dressed up), so this new style I had my eye on felt like the perfect seasonal departure from those, with their summery wash and more relaxed fit. They also have a slightly retro feel (classic Levi's, anyone?), and the slightly cropped length they tend to have is perfect for cute kicks. Yes, the obsession is real.
I found the summer jeans of my dreams at Madewell — aptly named "The Perfect Summer Jean", of course — and though they did take a little while to break in, I've basically been living in them since. True love, I'm telling you.
So now it's just a matter of finding that perfect, feminine white blouse. Because you know, I obviously don't have the right one in my closet already. Top contenders are anything that involves lace, sheer swiss dots, or delicate cuff details.
