Pink Lady
It's no secret I like pink. All it takes is a minute spent scrolling through my Instagram or Pinterest feed, a peek at past photo shoots and posts, and a visit to the studio for the truth to become pretty evident: I'm 29 years old and my favourite colour is pink. There, I admitted it. This isn't exactly anything new, stemming from a childhood love of pastel dresses fit for a fairytale and a collection of Barbie dolls to rival all others. But my love for the rosy hue has definitely been reignited as of late, and it didn't take long for that to become evident in my closet. Whether it's a hot pink or a pale pastel, if I have the choice, the decision is easy: think pink.
Though I've been pretty focused on styling pieces I already own, recently I've been on the lookout for some good post-Bicyclette Boutique shopping options. I'm a strong believer and supporter of shopping local and independent, and the sad truth is that Toronto has lost some pretty amazing retail gems recently, which has left me struggling to know where to turn when I am looking to splurge on that extra-special piece. Enter Pale Violet. If the name doesn't intrigue you with it's promises of pretty, pastel dreaminess, then the selection of well curated items will, and because the online shop carries a lot of the same lines and similar styles to those that we used to carry at Bicyclette, I was instantly drawn to the selection. One of the reasons I love supporting smaller shops is the ability to actually get to know who is behind the business and see how their vision is brought to life, and that was particularly evident the moment I reached out to owner/creative director Julia Blake, and across all of the various touchpoints of the brand.
The shorts that I picked out are pretty much what my summer dreams are made of. And the bright pink colour? Perfection. Aside from my go-to denim cutoffs, I have to admit that I haven't fully embraced shorts in my wardrobe, but I think this flirty style may have finally converted me, and I'm loving the potential they have for summer styling.
