Polka Dots and Snow Storms

polkadotsweater_10 It's the beginning of February, and now's about the time when I start to seriously start dreaming about a getaway to somewhere warm. Anywhere that lets me where little dresses with bare legs and doesn't require countless layers just to step outside the doors. I'm sure I'm not alone in this sentiment, and though I'm quite aware that we live in Canada and this is what we have to deal with, it doesn't change the fact that after a few months, it really starts to get to you.

I have a number of little tactics I use to survive the winter, most of which involve going into my own version of hibernation mode, curling up with a good book and a cup of tea or trying out new recipes at home, but I've also been trying to not let the weather stop me from spending time outside. A few weeks ago I started running with the Nike Queen West Run Club, and I've also been making an effort to visit new coffee shops and restaurants, and continue to explore Toronto.

Since leaving the house tends to involve getting dressed in an outfit that's fit for public viewing (not always the case for my "working from home" outfits), I've also been making more of an effort to get creative with what I already have in my closet and break out of the trusty sweater-and-denim combo, even just a little. I've always loved winter white palettes, which served as my inspiration when I put together this outfit for a coffee shop date this past weekend. Playing with proportions and textures adds a little interest, and I love how the sequins peek out from under the polka dot sweater, making it appropriate for daytime.
