Ritual — Styled Stock Photo Collection
Generally when we work on the concept for a new styled stock photo collection for Haute Stock, I start with a theme, or a general idea. For this collection, Ritual, it took a slightly different route, as my original idea was to style and shoot an elevated cannabis-themed collection. With weed legalized in Canada recently, and in general, it becoming more prevalent in people’s day-to-day routines and lifestyles, I wanted to explore what that might look like if it was done in a more aesthetic way.
If you take a peek at what’s out there in terms of cannabis-related stock photos and imagery, it’s limited and pretty much what you’d expect. In other words, nothing that I would personally want to use or share, whether for my own content needs or a clients’. Which to me, shows a potential gap in the market and a need to fill.
Anyways, it didn’t end up being a fit for Haute Stock, but since I had already built out a Visual Directive, was planning at a beautiful new studio and it had such a vibe, we shifted the concept so that we could still use a lot of the inspiration but the subject matter was a little different. (Side note — if you’re interested in the aforementioned cannabis photos, we did end up still shooting a few, and they can be found and licensed on Stocksy).
And so this new collection became Rituals, and it quite a beautiful one, if I do say so myself, filled with calming imagery and soft textures all centred around daily gently spiritual rituals, like tarot cards, journaling, burning sage and incense, crystals and lots of other loveliness.
I picture these photos being used for lifestyle content that revolves around self-care and talking about infusing these rituals in your own life, or specifically for creative businesses who are immersed in this world.
