Take Me Out // Valentine's Day

tulle1Hello lovelies! Welcome to the first ever instalment of 'Take Me Out', a new blog series collaboration between Random Acts of Pastel and Bicyclette, where I take my favourite Bicyclette pieces on adventures, and bring you along!

Can you believe it’s already February? Flowers decorate every convenience store window, half of the city has turned pink, red and white, and love is in the air. There really is no better time for a romantic date in your prettiest pieces with the one you love most, is there? So this week, polar vortex or not, I was determined to dress up like a princess and take my prince on a date, even if my stilettos had to double as ice picks!

I’ve been lusting over Jordan De Ruiter’s fluffy tulle ballerina skirts for awhile now. They’re a little bit Carrie Bradshaw, a little bit princess dress up, and a lot bit ballerina, which pretty much sounds like the perfect combination to me. I wasn’t sure how or where I would wear one, but I knew I needed one in my life regardless. Powerless to my tulle cravings, I eventually scooped up a pink skirt from Bicyclette, determined to take it on the perfect date.

But where oh where could I wear a long fluffy pink ballerina skirt in the middle of winter in Toronto? The answer was almost too obvious: The Kitten and The Bear.

The Kitten and The Bear is a tiny, perfectly charming shop in Parkdale. Delicious loose leaf tea is served in antique pots with complimentary china tea cups and hand embroidered napkins, and the smell of butter fills the air. When we arrived on a chilly Thursday afternoon, the owners were prepping pears for a new batch of jam, handmade in huge copper preserving pans on site. We settled in to a cozy window seat under a a gorgeous golden chandelier, and ordered just about everything on the menu.

With the cold winter air behind us, we shed our layers and revealed our date outfits. My prince (also known as Emmett), went for a classic look in tailored black trousers, boots, and a dress shirt, but added a pink bowtie and sequin Ban.do heart brooch to honour the occasion. I paired my ballerina skirt with a black silk camisole, heart print cardigan, frilly socks and pom pom heels. I topped it all off with my favourite pony clutch, heart shaped sunglasses, and a Ban.Do heart hair clip, because I’m into matching like that. (I know, gross right?)
