DAILY INSPIRATION . BALLERINAS
When I was growing up I had a major love affair with ballet. I would get so excited every Tuesday night to dress up in my pink tights, leather dance shoes and white tutu, which in rehearsal, was always completely inappropriate and unnecessary. But it was fun. It was as if by dressing the part I was let in on a deeply historic and ritualistic art form. I dreamt of Balanchine showing up in my small town class and giving us a lesson on poise and posture. Even now whenever I'm scrolling through Pinterest or perusing the internet, I always find myself so attracted to ballerina photography. There is something so pure, so feminine and so intriguingly sad about ballerinas. I'm a girly girl at heart and so it's no surprise when I started at Bicyclette I fell in love with Jordan DeRuiter's amazing fluffy tutus right away. They bring me back to my childhood and anytime I put one on I feel like dancing around for hours. Last October we created a lookbook called "Lonely Ballerina" where we created our own version of some of our ballet photography, using Jordan's tutus. Here is a collection of other ballet images I have saved as inspiration over the years.
