SCARLET O'NEILL + LYNZIE IN DETROIT .
We have the coolest friends, hands down. Earlier this summer Scarlet O'Neill headed down to Detroit with Lynzie Kent, owner of Love by Lynzie and lead singer of Electric Blonde, and when Scarlet asked if I'd be interested in styling the shoot, I jumped at the chance.
Knowing that Lynzie's style has a definite rock n' roll edge and she isn't afraid to make a statement, we wanted to take advantage of that and dress the blonde bombshell in pieces that would showcase her personal style and mix in a little Bicyclette whimsy. Needless to say, our Jordan de Ruiter tulle skirt (and quite possibly our favourite styling item of all time) was the first piece we packed for the duo's road trip, adding in a For Love & Lemons kimono, a selection of bustiers and accessories that were the perfect mix of pretty and punk.
When I first dreamt up the concept for Bicyclette, it was important to me that I created a lifestyle brand that merges downtown, city life with a whimsical twist – street style meets fairy tale. This shoot embodies that concept perfectly, and I love the juxtaposition of the gritty city streets and locations, which almost feel abandoned, with this gorgeous blonde styled as a rock n’ roll ballerina. A photo shoot to me should tell a story and draw you in, and Scarlet captured that sense of mystery and intrigue so well here, offering an escape and a peek into this magical world.
The backdrops that Scarlet scouted out for each shot in this series reflects the attitude of the shoot perfectly, and each outfit, with the feminine details of the kimono and the tutu, feels unexpected, especially against the graphic graffiti elements and pops of primary colours. I'd be lying if I said this doesn't make me miss those hot summer days just a little.
